If you are taking off just a few variables you can create your own set-up files based on the column locations in the codebooks. All the codebooks are available electronically.
However, a better solution for you might be to go to the IPUMS-CPS site at the University of Minnesota:

With this interface, you can extract the items you want across multiple years of the survey (1964-2007). The items have been normalized so that the coding for each item is the same. With your extract, you get set-up files in your statistical package of choice.
